As proper tire pressure is an essential component of fast wheels, having a valve extender with the valve core above the rim is the only way to control the air inside your tire when you have deep dish wheels. Zipp outsourced this design to their friends at Silca for this Zipp Tube Valve Extender. There are four different sizes, and each size comes as a three-pack, one for your front wheel, one for your rear, and one for your spare. There are two kinds of valve extenders. One kind screws on top of your existing Presta valve: you leave the valve in the open position permanently. This Zipp extender screws into the top of a Presta valve with a removable valve core. Remove the core (tool included), screw in the extender, then install the core at the top of the extender. With this kind, it’s easy to bleed air to get precisely the pressure you need. This kind works on both clinchers and tubulars, provided the tube has a removable core. Most tubulars come this way. Some clincher tubes do. The extender is made of anodized aluminum. It has a 24mm wide gasket wrapping the extender near the top. This is designed to remove the possibility of the extender rattling against the rim, a lighter and more attractive solution than taping the extender, as some do. There are four lengths of extender, each based on using Zipp’s 37mm long valve stem as the base. 34mm is for rims 32-49mm deep and weighs 2g, 45mm is for 50-65mm depths and weighs 2.7g, 60mm is for 66-80mm depths and weighs 3.7g, and 75mm is for 81-95mm depths and weighs 4.7g.
